Home Remedies :

·  Prepare a powdered mixture of coriander seeds, fennel, basil, turmeric and Indian gooseberry (amla) in equal parts. Take ½ teaspoon of this powder 15 minutes before lunch and dinner.

·  Have 1 teaspoon of powdered Indian gooseberry fruit (amla) in morning and evening with water.

· Take one teaspoon of coriander juice mixed with a pinch of turmeric powder. Drink twice daily.

 

   LEUCODERMA :

Diet & Lifestyle Advice :

·  Increase consumption of vegetables that are bitter in taste, like drumsticks and bitter gourd.

·  Stay away from difficult to digest foods, sour taste, excessive salt, curd, fish, jaggery and sesame seeds.

·  Avoid consumption of opposite foods, such as fish and milk together.

·  Have sound and adequate sleep daily.

·  Do not over-expose yourself to excessive cold or heat conditions.

Home Remedies :

 

·  Make a paste of Bakuchi (Psoralea Corylifolia) and coconut oil and apply over the white patches and expose it to early sunrays (morning sunlight) for 15 minutes.

·   Take about 500 gm of turmeric and 8 liters of water, boil until it shrinks to a liter. Now, filter the solution and add about 500 ml of mustard oil. Apply this mixture twice a day on the leucoderma patches. Soak 50 gm of tamarind seeds in water for 3-4 days, then let them dry out well and grind them to a paste. Mix the powder with water to a paste and apply it to affected areas daily, until the patches disappear.

·   Mix turmeric powder well with mustard oil and apply externally on the patches.

   DANDRUFF :

·  Wash hair regularly 2-3 times a week with a mild shampoo.

·  Massage your hair with oil every time before washing the head and hair.

·   Avoid spicy, greasy, hot and penetrating foods, junk food, and aerated drinks.

·   Have food with good nutritive value; include fiber-rich foods, salads, fruits, and lentils.

·   Do regular yoga and exercises to minimize stress levels.

·   Avoid scratching the scalp with hands or any other objects.

Home Remedies:-

·   Mix 2-3 teaspoons of coconut oil with 1 teaspoon of Indian gooseberry (amla) juice. Gently massage the scalp with this everyday.

·    Add 10 drops of lemon juice to 1 egg white and beat well. Apply to the scalp and hair once a week.

·    Mix 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 1 tablespoon mustard oil, and 1 cup yogurt. Apply this to the hair 30 minutes to 1 hour before washing the head and hair.

·    Soak 50 gm methi dana in 2 cups of water overnight, next day in the morning make the paste and apply on scalp for 15 minutes.

·    Chew 10 holy basil leaves (tulsi), 10 margosa leaves (neem), and 10 bael leaves (belpatra) on an empty stomach early in the morning.

 

 PSORIASIS :

Diet & Lifestyle Advice :

 

·   Avoid consuming opposite foods.

·   Do not control natural urges like vomiting, urination, bowels, etc.

·   Do not take cold water bath immediately after a heavy workout, traveling, a long walk, etc.

·   Take care not to consume foods which cause indigestion.

·   Absolutely do not eat too much of salty, sour or acidic foods.

·   Avoid sleeping in afternoons.

·  Say no to radish, sesame, jaggery (gur), curds, fish and other sour foods.

Home Remedies :

·  Cover the affected part with a fresh thin banana leaf.

·  Take 15-20 sesame seeds and soak in a glass of water. Keep it overnight and drink on an empty stomach early in the morning.

·   Take 1-2 cup of bitter gourd juice on empty stomach in the morning. Continue this for 5-6 months. Patient may add a tablespoon of lime juice, if they find it difficult to digest the bitter taste.

 

 

 ECZEMA :

·   Avoid spicy or oily food and a hot humid atmosphere.

·  Wear loose, cotton clothes; avoid synthetic fibers as they inhibit perspiration.

·  Avoid soap or use mild herbal soap for bathing.

·  Use a soft, smooth towel and avoid rubbing the skin.

·  Avoid tea, coffee, hot spices, and canned and preserved foods.

·  Practice Bhujangasan and Agnisaar Pranayam to enhance your body’s immunity.

 

Home Remedies :

 

·   Prepare a decoction by boiling 20-30 margosa (neem) leaves in about 4-5 cups of water for 20 minutes. Let it cool and use this water to wash the affected area

·   Boil 30 grams of Indian gum tree (babul) bark and 30 grams of mango tree bark in 1 liter of water for 30 minutes. Use this water to make a hot compress (fomentation) on the affected part. After fomentation for about 15-20 minutes, clean the skin with dry cloth and apply purified butter as an ointment.

·   Mix 1 teaspoon licorice root powder with a small amount of sesame oil. Warm this in a pan and then apply to the affected part. Wrap a bandage over it and leave for 3-4 hours. Repeat twice a day.

 

 

  HAIR LOSS AND PREMATURE GRAYING :

·  Avoid Pitta-aggravating foods like spicy, heavy, and oily foods, as well as tea and coffee.

·  Avoid refined foods, refined sugar, junk food, and alcoholic and carbonated drinks.

 URTICARIA (HIVES) :

·   Eat cooked split gram (split legumes), bitter gourd vegetable, and pomegranate.

·   Use honey rather than sugar.

·   Use mustard oil for cooking.

·   Fast for one day or have very light foods like porridge, boiled rice, vegetable soup, etc.

·   Avoid suppressing the urge to vomit.

·   Avoid exposure to wind, sleeping in the daytime, sunbathing, and excessive indulgence in sex.

Home Remedies :

 

·   Take 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder with a glass of milk or water two to three times a day. It is an excellent treatment to increase the body’s immunity.

·   Massage the skin with mustard oil for 15 minutes, followed it with a bath with lukewarm water.

·   Make a paste of 2 cups of oatmeal and 3 teaspoons of corn starch and water. Apply this paste on the affected areas until the itching is reduced.

Make a powdered mixture of equal parts of rock candy (mishri), fennel, and green cardamom. Whenever you experience heartburn, mix 1 teaspoon of the mixture in a glass of cold milk and drink.
Mix together equal parts of powdered fennel, licorice root, basil leaves, and coriander seeds. Have ½ teaspoon of this mixture with ½ teaspoon of powdered rock candy (mishri) 15 minutes before lunch and dinner.

 

 

JAUNDICE :

·   Avoid hot, spicy, oily, and heavy foods; eat a vegetarian diet.

·   Avoid refined flour, polished rice (white rice), mustard oil, mustard seeds, asafetida, peas, canned and preserved foods, cakes, pastries, chocolates, alcoholic beverages, and aerated drinks.

·   Increase intake of whole-wheat flour, brown rice or parboiled rice, mangoes, bananas, tomatoes, spinach, potatoes, Indian gooseberries (amla), grapes, radishes, lemons, dried dates, raisins, almonds, and cardamom.

·   Avoid unnecessary exercise and stressful conditions such as anxiety or anger.

·   Take complete rest.

·   Avoid working under the sun or near boilers and furnaces.

Home Remedies :

 

·   Add 1 teaspoon paste of basil leaves to a glassful of radish juice. Have this juice twice a day for 15-20 days.

·  Take one teaspoon pulp of Indian Aloe Vera with black salt and dry ginger powder every morning for a period of 10 days.

·  Mash bitter gourd and extract its juice. Take one-fourth cup of the juice in the early morning daily.

 

  LIVER CIRRHOSIS :

·    Avoid hot, spicy, oily, and heavy foods; eat a vegetarian diet.

·    Avoid refined flour, polished rice (white rice), mustard oil, mustard seeds, asafetida, peas, canned and preserved foods, cakes, pastries, chocolates, alcoholic beverages, and aerated drinks.

·   Increase intake of whole-wheat flour, brown rice or parboiled rice, mangoes, bananas, tomatoes, spinach, potatoes, Indian gooseberries (amla), grapes, radishes, lemons, dried dates, raisins, almonds, and cardamom.

·    Avoid unnecessary exercise and stressful conditions such as anxiety or anger.

·   Take complete rest.

·   Alcohol consumption should be stopped completely.

 

  CHRONIC GASTRITIS :

 

Diet & Lifestyle Advice :

 

·   Patients suffering from Gastritis should fast for one or two days.

·   They may be given warm water or juicy fruits such as grapes, apples, oranges, water melons, etc. during these days.

·   The main idea is to detoxify the stomach by flushing out toxins.

·   Stay away from coffee and carbonated or alcoholic beverages.

·   Avoid processed and fermented foods.

·   Also avoid rich gravies, sour, salty, and spicy foods.

·   Do some amount of exercising daily; practicing Pranayama can be helpful.

·   Drink at least 8-9 glasses of water in a day. Water will relax the stomach and clear all the toxins accumulated inside.

Home Remedies :

 

·   Chew 2-3 small pieces of ginger with salt before each meal. This will give fast relief from the uneasiness caused by gastritis.

·    Have 1 glassfull of buttermilk with 1/8 teaspoonful each of roasted cumin seeds powder and dried ginger powder with your breakfast and lunch. Mix 2 tablespoon of coriander leaf juice, ¼ teaspoonful roasted cumin seeds powder and 2-3 pinches of rock salt to 1 glass of water. Have this juice twice a day.

·    Take equal amount of (6 grams of each ) sonth, kalimirch (black pepper), pippal (long pepper). Grind to a fine powder and add 1 gm of asafetida and 2 gm of rock salt (sendha namak) in the mix. Add few drop of water and make paste of thin consistency. Warm the paste mildly and apply on the stomach. Remove this after 2 hours.

 

 CONSTIPATION :

Diet & Lifestyle Advice :

·  Increase intake of fiber, especially fruits and cooked vegetables.

·  An apple or banana each day is helpful. Bananas should be ripe (bright yellow.

·  Drink 7-8 glasses of water each day, preferably lukewarm in winters and room -temperature water in summers.

·  Have a mid-morning soup, preferably prepared with spinach and tomato.

·  Take daily morning and evening walks for at least 20-30 minutes each.

·   Eat whole grains and nuts.

·    Avoid removing bran from the flour because the bran is an insoluble fiber that clears off the intestines and relieves constipation.

·  Avoid refined foods like white flour, bread, pasta, pizza, white rice, etc.

·  High -protein foods like cheese, red meat, and soybeans can cause constipation, so these must be taken with a bowl of salad and lots of liquids.

·  Meat is constipating and should be avoided.

·  Disturbing psychological factors should be removed, and meals should be taken in a relaxed and calm atmosphere.

·  The food should be warm and freshly -prepared, as cold and stale food slows down the digestive power.

·  Having excessively cold food like ice cream or chilled drinks reduces the bowel movement.

Home Remedies :

·  Take one table spoon of castor oil at bed time until you get relief.

·  Develop a habit of drinking water in the morning. Start with 2 glasses of water, and increase intake up to 6 – 7 glasses. It is more beneficial if this water can be stored in a copper container overnight.

·  Soak 3-4 dried figs after washing them overnight in water. Eat them first thing in the morning, and also drink the water in which they were soaked. They should also be taken in the evening. Try this treatment for 3-4 weeks.

·   Apply 3 to 4 drops of lukewarm castor oil over the navel at night in kids. It will help in clearing the bowel movements in kids (of age 1- 3 years) in the morning.

·   Apply lukewarm sesame oil on the navel during taking bath and put towel (which is dipped in warm water) on the lower abdomen.

 

DIARRHEA :

 

Diet & Lifestyle Advice :

 

·  Sufficient intake of water and liquid foods is always adviced in diarrhoea.

·   Light, easy to digest food articles such as liquid rice, porridge are recommended. Soups made from lentils are also good in diarrhoea. Fruits like sweet lime, oranges, apple, melons are allowed.

·   Heavy, spicy, fried food is prohibited. Non-veg items, eggs are also not allowed. Sugarcane juice is also forbidden.

·   Water is adviced to be boiled before drinking.

·   While goat milk is more recommended, cow’s milk may also be allowed. Buffelo milk is however forbidden.

Mother’s milk is however always allowed.

Home Remedies :

·  Add 1 teaspoon of ginger to water and boil the water. Drink the mixture when it is lukewarm every one hour.

·  Take 50 gm of fresh pomegranate skin. Soak it in 800 ml of water for one hour. Boil until a quarter of the volume remains (200 ml). Store this mixture in a clean, dry bottle. Take a couple of tablespoons several times a day. If there is blood in the stools, add half a teaspoon of honey to the decoction

·  Mix one teaspoon of sugar and half a teaspoon of common salt in a cup of water. Small doses of this mixture (around a quarter cup) can be given whenever the patient is thirsty.

·   Take one teaspoon of Isabgol (psyllium husk) with one cup of yogurt.

·    Mix 1 teaspoon each of cinnamon, ginger and cumin powder with honey to make a paste. Take 1 teaspoon three times a day

·    Roast 2/3 teaspoon of cumin seeds and powder them. Add a pinch each of ginger powder, cinnamon powder and black pepper powder. Mix in 1 cup of yogurt. Eat twice a day.

DIVERTICULITIS :

 

Diet & Lifestyle Advice :

·  Diet should consist of unrefined foods, such as whole grain cereals, bran, honey and lentils. Green and leafy vegetables such as lettuce, cabbage, celery, pumpkin and squash. Fresh fruits like pears, grapes, figs, papaya, grapefruit, gooseberries and guava are all recommended. Dry fruits like figs and raisins are also suggested.

·  The foods which should be drastically curtailed or altogether avoided are high fat foods such as butter, cheese, chocolate, cream, ice cream, fatty meat, fried food and gravies as well as high carbohydrate foods like bread, candy, cookies, cereal products, potatoes, sugar, high fructose corn syrup and rich puddings. Beverages such as all fountain drinks and alcoholic drinks should also be avoided.

 

 

 DYSENTERY :

· Take 1 teaspoon of powdered preparation of dried ginger root, cumin seeds, nutmeg, and black pepper in equal quantities. Add 2 teaspoons of psyllium husk and a pinch of rock salt. Have this once in the morning with buttermilk, and again later in the day with lukewarm water.

·  Make a combination of powdered dried ginger root, black pepper, long pepper and amla powder in equal quantities. Store this in glass container. Take one teaspoon of powdered mix with lukewarm water twice a day

 

DYSPEPSIA :

Diet & Lifestyle Advice :

 

General guidelines for diet:

Strict attention to diet is essential for recovery.

·  Starchy, protein and fatty foods should be restricted.

·  Meats, sugar, tea, coffee, condiments, pickles, refined and processed foods should be avoided.

·  White flour and white sugar products should be avoided.

·  Heavy gravies, puddings, cakes, chocolates, pastries and alcohol should be avoided. Soft drinks, candies, ice creams and products made with sugar and white flour should also be avoided.

·   Non-vegetarian foods should be avoided.

·   Rice can be eaten with steamed vegetables, which should be garnished with spices. Khichari also should be used.

·   Pomegranate fruit, buttermilk, soup of reddish are beneficial.

Tips for improving digestion :

·   A very simple way to improve digestion is to give up the habit of eating too much. Try to regulate eating hours and always leave part of the stomach empty for movement of food during digestion.

·   Eat fresh and natural foods. Avoid preserved, canned, or fast foods.

·   Never suppress natural urges, such as passing urine, stool or flatus, sneezing, belching, yawning, and even crying. Suppression of such urges aggravates toxins in the body.

·   Create regular meal times. Maintain at least 4 hours of interval between two meals.

·    Eat dinner before 2 hours of sleeping. Take a walk after dinner.

Dietary guidelines :

·  Consume food in proper quantity.

·   Eat when you are hungry.

·   Foods should complement, not contradict each other.

·   Eating in a pleasant environment is preferable.

·   Eating should be paced properly (not too fast or slow).

·   Minimize distractions while eating.

·   Food should be eaten according to constitution.

·   Eat freshly prepared foods as much as possible. If you have to eat leftovers, make sure they are not more than a day old.

·   Avoid poor food combinations, such as very hot and very cold foods; raw and cooked food; milk and fish; or milk and meat.

·   Avoid microwave cooking. It disperses energy and is ultimately weakening over time. This has been scientifically and empirically proven.

·    Food should look and smell appetizing. Pleasant garnishes and attractive table settings help to instill a sense of harmony at the dinner table.

·    Drink spring or purified water. Avoid distilled water, which does not contain any minerals and has a tendency to accumulate them from your system. This weakens bones, teeth, hair, nails, and skin. However, various mineral formulations are nowadays available. These can be added to the distilled water to rectify this problem.

·    Try to get up early in the morning and drink two to three glasses of water the first thing in the morning. It is preferable to store the water in a copper pot on the previous night. It helps to remove toxins from the body. In winters you may warm this water.

·    Regular meditation, yoga and exercise are advisable. Exercise promotes circulation and helps to maintain the blood flow to every part of body. Exercise to half of your strength.

·     Proper rest and sound sleep are advisable.

·        Keep your mind relaxed.

·         Avoid keeping awake late into nights and try to get up early in morning.

·         Add morning and night walk to daily routine.

·         Avoid too hot and too cold temperature.

Specific guidelines :

Fasting is very effective treatment for dyspepsia as it helps to digest the ama and digestive system gets the required rest as it is not loaded with the food.

After fasting, when patient is hungry, he should take light foods like mung dal soup, boiled vegetables like squash, bitter gourd, amla, radish and spices like cumin, ginger, black pepper, cilantro, fenugreek etc.

Herbs used are hing (assafoetida), chitrak, vacha, Piper longum, Terminalia chebula, Emblica officinalis , Adhatoda vasica etc.

Home Remedies :

·  Mix curry leaves juice and lime juice in equal quantities. Add some honey. Take this mixture 2/3 times a day to relieve dyspepsia.

·  Mix a teaspoon of coarse powder of aniseed in a cup of boiling water and leave it covered overnight. Strain the liquid in morning and drink with honey.

     

  PILES :

 

Diet & Lifestyle Advice :

 

·   Avoid the intake of heavy, dry, cool, and stale foods.

·   Avoid refined foods like jams, pastries, packaged, and canned foods.

·    Also avoid tea, coffee, aerated drinks, and alcoholic beverages.

·     Avoid pickles, potatoes, and root vegetables except radish and carrot.

·     Avoid excessive fasting, overeating, eating during indigestion, and eating incompatible food.

·    Increase the intake of whole-wheat flour, whole grains, brown rice, barley, legumes (lentils, beans, peas, chickpeas, soybeans, etc.), buttermilk, rock salt, Indian gooseberries (amla), green leafy vegetables, and foods that are rich in fiber.

·    Eat more fruits including oranges, figs, strawberries, kiwis, bananas, pears, papayas, apples, grapes, and mangoes.

·     Increase daily liquid consumption in the form of water, soup, juice, milk, buttermilk, etc.

·     Have freshly-prepared warm food with a little purified butter added.

·      Engage in light exercise like walking, yoga, and swimming.

·      Avoid sleeping during the daytime and waking up late in the night.

Home Remedies :

 

·    Apply sesame oil on external dry piles followed by warm fomentation (warm moist compresses or sitting in warm water). The easiest method is to sit in a tub with the buttocks submerged in warm water.

·    Make an ointment by mixing an equal amount of powdered long pepper and turmeric with milk (preferably cow’s milk). Apply this on the piles externall

·   Eat 4 figs twice a day, in the morning and evening. Saturate 4 figs in water for the whole night; eat these in the morning. Remember not to drink water prior to eating the figs. Saturate another 4 figs in the morning to be eaten in the evening. Do this every day for 4 weeks.

 

 FLATULENCE :

 

Diet & Lifestyle Advice :

 

·    Stick to a vata-pacifying, easily digestible and nutritious diet.

·    Avoid raw foods, even raw salads and sprouted beans and pulses.

·    Use vata-pacifying herbs like asafetida, celery seeds, cumin seeds and cardamom while cooking.

·    Avoid rice at night.

·    Whole wheat and brown rice are helpful.

·    Avoid tea, coffee, late night dinners, alcoholic beverages, aerated drinks, and fermented foods.

·    Always make sure you eat your food in calm and relaxing surroundings, without the disturbance of television or loud music. Food should be warm and freshly prepared and should be taken only when you feel hungry. Practice Vajrasan and Agnisaar Pranayam.

Home Remedies :

 

·   Fry 1 gm of asafetida in purified butter, ½ teaspoon of black salt and 3 teaspoons of celery (ajwain) seeds. Take 1 teaspoon with lukewarm water 2-3 times a day.

·    Make a mixture of 1 teaspoon of roasted cumin seeds powder, 1 teaspoon of celery seeds, 1 teaspoon of dried ginger powder and ¼ teaspoon of black salt. Take ½ teaspoon of the mixture with lukewarm water twice a day.

·    Have 1 glass of buttermilk with 1/6 teaspoon each of roasted cumin seeds powder and dried ginger powder. Add black salt according to taste.

 

GALLSTONE :

 

Diet & Lifestyle Advice :

 

Since dietary factors often play a significant role in gallstone formation, following appropriate dietary regimen and lifestyle is of utmost importance. So following rules should be obeyed meticulously to prevent formation of gallstones and also to cure them :

·   Maintain proper food timings like breakfast before 9.30am, lunch before 1pm and dinner before 8.30pm. Late night meals and parties must be avoided.

·    Non-veg, fatty food, junk foods, sweets, chocolates, bread, cakes, milk products like curds, butter and khoya, carbonated drinks, alcohol must be strictly restricted.

 

 TINEA (RINGWORM) :

Diet & Lifestyle Advice :

·   One should avoid very fired, spicy, sour and excessive sweet foods. Citrus fruits (lemon, lime, orange), chutneys, sauces, pickled food, mustard and vinegar should be avoided.

·    One should avoid foods made up of white flour such as bread, cakes, pastries, pizza etc.

·     You should avoid artificial foods, fast foods, cola drinks. Tomatoes, excessive salt should be avoided.

·      Non- veg foods should be avoided completely.

·      Tea, coffee, alcohol and smoking are also pitta aggravating. Milk product like yogurt should be avoided. Rather than these foods stress on foods, which are sweet, blend, alkaline in nature.
